Steve Magoffin, the Queensland fast bowler, will finish his career in England after retiring from Australian first-class cricket and signing a near two-year deal with Sussex. Magoffin, 32, joined the county this season as an overseas player and after impressing with 24 wickets at 21.95 in the County Championship so far this summer, he has agreed to stay on for the rest of this year and at least until the end of 2013.As an overseas county player, Magoffin could have kept playing in Australia but his wife, who is British, is expecting a baby in December and Magoffin decided the time was right to relocate to England. The move brings to an end a Sheffield Shield career that began in 2004-05 in Western Australia, before Magoffin returned to his home state of Queensland last season and helped them secure the Shield title.His final act in Australian cricket was to strike the winning run for the Bulls in the Shield final against Tasmania in March, as part of a 45-run seventh-wicket partnership with Chris Hartley that rescued the side from a dangerous position. It was the perfect end for Magoffin, who grew up in Queensland but moved to Perth to avoid being stuck behind Michael Kasprowicz, Andy Bichel, Ashley Noffke, Joe Dawes and Mitchell Johnson in the Queensland bowling queue.”It’s definitely a case of mixed emotions for me,” Magoffin said. “I was so pleased to finally play for Queensland last season, and to finish that way with a Shield title was the stuff that dreams are made of. But I’m at a stage now where my wife Becky and I are starting a family later this year and the opportunity to play on in England with Sussex and be here with her family when the baby comes is the best thing for us.”I’m very thankful to [coach] Darren Lehmann and the Queensland selectors for giving me a go last season, and for being so understanding now. There were no promises when I came back home from Western Australia but they looked out for me and things panned out, probably better than I could have hoped. I look back at how the Warriors gave me an opportunity to play first class cricket, which I remain grateful for, and when that door closed, it was a case of right place/right time when I came home to Brisbane.”Magoffin picked up 199 first-class wickets at 26.85 for Western Australia, and 23 at 16.60 during his only season with Queensland. He was a strong enough Shield performer to earn a call-up as a standby player for Australia’s Test series in South Africa in 2008-09, but that was as close he came to representing his country.”There were plenty of batsman over the years that lost the battle to Mags because he would do his utmost with every delivery to build pressure,” said Lehmann, Magoffin’s coach in his final year of state cricket. “And with the bat, he was certainly a man for a crisis. I hope he and his family enjoys the remainder of his career in England and the Bulls wish him every success with Sussex from here.”A tall fast bowler who moves the ball off the seam, Magoffin made an immediate impression on debut for Sussex, collecting nine wickets against Lancashire. Mark Robinson, the professional cricket manager with Sussex, said the county was pleased to have secured Magoffin until the end of next year.”Mags has fitted in really well in his time here,” Robinson said. “With overseas players increasingly difficult to find and the International calendar even busier next season with the Champions Trophy in our summer, we are delighted to have secured such a dependable and important player for the rest of the season and the next.”

وتابع: “هناك مفاوضات في الوقت الحالي مع إدارة ميلان حول تجديد العقد، أشعر بأنني سعيد للغاية مع هذا النادي كما لو كان بيتي”.

Kevin McClean, the Barbados fast bowler, has been drafted in as a replacement.Bishoo lost his Test place after the opening match against Australia, when Shane Shillingford was recalled. In 11 Tests he has taken 40 wickets at 39.55 and has also played 13 one-day internationals and four Twenty20s.Donovan Pagon is another player with brief Test experience having played two matches, while Devon Thomas, Leon Johnson and Nkrumah Bonner have played in one-day internationals or Twenty20s.Veerasammy Permaul, the Guyana left-arm spinner, will resume his role as captain and will have Barbados allrounder Jason Holder as his deputy. Middlesex have announced that Neil Dexter will temporarily step down as captain of the Championship side to concentrate on regaining form with the bat. He will be replaced by Chris Rogers, though Dexter will continue to lead Middlesex in one-day cricket and the situation will be “kept under regular review”, the club have said.Middlesex have won one and lost one after their first two games back in Division One of the Championship. Dexter, who led the team to promotion from Division Two last season, has scored 15 runs in four innings, though he did take three wickets as his side secured a dramatic victory over London rivals Surrey in their second match.It is understood that South Africa-born Dexter did not have much opportunity for pre-season net practice after the death of his brother around Christmas time led to an extended return home, and has asked for his responsibilities to be reduced in the short term.Angus Fraser, Middlesex’s director of cricket, said: “Once again I applaud Neil for his selfless and honest behaviour. I selected Neil as Middlesex CCC captain in 2010 because of the standards and values he holds, and he never lets you down. Neil’s captaincy during the thrilling three-run victory over Surrey was outstanding. It played a major role in turning potential sorrow in to delight.”He is, however, not happy with his current form with the bat and believes extra time spent concentrating on this part of his game will help return him to his best quickest, which is what we all want. Mills’ comments came ahead of the second ODI between New Zealand and South Africa at McLean Park in Napier, where the square boundaries are a little over 50 metres long.”I’m a bowler so I’m going to be a little bit biased. I think the wickets are too flat and the boundaries need to go out further,” Mills told . “The bats are all pretty good these days and a mis-hit can go for six.”I think Hamilton is ridiculous. The ropes are 4m in from the [advertising] boards; that’s absurd. Richard Levi probably would have got out three or four times if the rope was back on the boards.”Levi hit a record 13 sixes during his 117 off 51 balls, the fastest Twenty20 century, at Seddon Park. His first six was a top-edged sweep over the fine-leg boundary against the spinner Nathan McCullum.Mills also called the length of the straight boundaries at Eden Park in Auckland “absurd”.”A good-sized cricket ground makes for exceptionally good batsmanship; we saw that at the Cake Tin [in Wellington], where there are reasonably sized boundaries,” Mills said. “We saw plenty of ones, plenty of twos, and the odd three. It was great for people to watch a batter like [AB de Villiers] on a good-sized ground.”The ICC’s playing conditions stipulate that the boundary rope must be at least three metres away from the fence/advertisement hoardings for safety reasons.
