MLS has always been an attractive destination for stars entering the end of their careers. We've seen David Beckham and Steven Gerrard both play for LA Galaxy; Frank Lampard and David Villa play for New York City FC; and now, in the biggest move in MLS history, we're about to see Lionel Messi turn out for Inter Miami every week.

Given Miami's current form, however – failing to win in their last eight games – the European equivalent of this move would be if the Argentine decided to move to Everton. Yet, here Messi is, and here Miami are, ready to build around one of the best players of all time, if not the very best.

Jesse Lingard

To say that Jesse Lingard's move to Nottingham Forest didn't work out would be an understatement. The midfielder didn't score or assist a single Premier League goal as the newly-promoted side managed to secure survival.

Now a free agent after his deal came to an end, the former Manchester United man is on the hunt for a new club, and is reportedly training with Inter Miami.

Still only 30, Lingard has plenty to offer, and would be a significant upgrade in a struggling Miami side.

Jordi Alba

Like Lingard, Jordi Alba is a free agent this summer, and could make the move to Inter Miami to join former Barcelona teammate Messi. During his time at the Spanish giants, Alba wrote himself into the history books as arguably one of the club's greatest full-backs, winning La Liga six times, as well as numerous other trophies.

Now 34, the left-back has the chance to make the MLS move. According to Marca, Alba is already in contact with Inter Miami amid a potential summer switch.

He would be the second Barcelona player to make the move during this transfer window following in Sergio Busquets' footsteps.

Sergio Ramos

After getting a glimpse of Messi's ability up close as a teammate for the first time at Paris Saint-Germain, Sergio Ramos could link up with the Barcelona legend once again, this time at Inter Miami – as per Sport.

The former Real Madrid captain continues the trend of free agents on Beckham's list of transfer targets, after his contract in the French capital came to an end this summer.

If Inter Miami are looking for leaders, then they needn't look any further than Ramos in the current transfer window.

Luis Suarez

Getting Luis Suarez and Messi back together on the same pitch would arguably be a better reunion than any famous band in history. The duo would still cause chaos against some big European sides, let alone MLS teams.

If Inter Miami can secure a deal for Suarez from Gremio, in particular, then they will undoubtedly rise up the rankings in America, and rapidly.

Speaking about transfer targets, Beckham said, via GiveMeSport: “Two or three more players will come.

"We spoke with Jordi Alba— while Luis Suarez has a contract and a release clause. I don't know if that will happen or not. All the announcements will be made before July 15.”

Newcastle United are continuing to battle Liverpool for the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai this summer, according to journalist Chris Bascombe.

*David Ornstein claimed shortly after this article was published that Newcastle are dropping out of the race to sign the Hungary international.

Who's in the race to sign Szoboszlai?

The 22-year-old looks increasingly likely to leave Leipzig during the summer transfer window, potentially feeling that now is the best time for him to move on to the next stage in his career.

Szoboszlai has been linked with a move to Newcastle numerous times in recent weeks, as Eddie Howe looks to conduct some serious business before the 2023/23 Premier League season gets underway.

The Magpies aren't going to have it all their own way in their quest to sign the highly-rated Hungarian, however, with Liverpool seemingly providing the sternest competition.

What's the latest on Szoboszlai to Newcastle?

Providing an update, The Telegraph's Chris Bascombe said that Newcastle remain in the hunt to sign Szoboszlai alongside the Reds this summer, with his £60m release clause now expiring on Friday and changing the situation:

"Both Premier League clubs have been considering the merits of a move for the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, but the valuation of the Hungary international is likely to increase after June 30. That means if the two clubs are tempted to make an official move, it is decision time and they would be wiser to do so sooner rather than later.

"Newcastle are seeking alternatives to James Maddison, who signed for Tottenham Hotspur in midweek having earlier spoken to the Tynesiders’. Liverpool have held talks with Szoboszlai’s representatives, but have thus far played down the extent of their interest given the overall cost."

It does feel increasingly likely that this will be a straight shootout between Newcastle and Liverpool, although the former should feel confident of pipping their rivals for two key reasons.

Firstly, they are in a stronger financial position this summer, in terms of being willing to go big on players, meaning they could simply end up overpowering the Reds, whose owners, FSG, are known for their frugal nature.

Newcastle also having Champions League football to offer Szoboszlai while Liverpool are only in the Europa League, and the Leipzig man could be keen to remain in the competition.

If the Magpies could get a deal over the line it could be hugely significant – he has been called an "artist" by football talent scout Jacek Kulig – snapping him up as a strong James Maddison alternative and providing a mix of creativity and hard work in attacking midfield.

Nottingham Forest have made an offer to bring Monza star Michele Di Gregorio to the Premier League, according to Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio.

Who is Michele Di Gregorio?

Di Gregorio is a goalkeeper who currently plays his football at the Stadio Brianteo having moved there permanently last summer following a successful loan from Inter Milan, as per Transfermarkt. Across both spells, he’s registered 110 appearances to date.

Last seaosn, the Italian started 37 out of the 38 Serie A games so has been a regular feature between the sticks, and with the futures of both Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas uncertain, Steve Cooper has identified him as a potential option for the ongoing window.

Back in May, Calciomercato reported that the Reds had made contact to gather information and discover what it would take to get a deal for the 25-year-old over the line, and they must have liked what they were told because they have allegedly tabled a proposal to secure his services.

Are Nottingham Forest signing Di Gregorio?

According to Di Marzio (via Tutto Cagliari and Sport Witness), Monza have “received several offers” for Di Gregorio, one of them being from Nottingham Forest. The City Ground outfit are seriously “interested” in the shot-stopper, and the journalist claims that his side already have a replacement lined up so they clearly must be expecting his departure.

Nottingham Forest will need a new number one next season should Henderson and Navas not still be with the squad, and looking at how well Di Gregorio performed last season, he would be an upgrade on Cooper’s current options.

The Carlo Alberto Belloni Client, who pockets £13k-per-week, kept ten clean sheets from 37 Serie A matches during the previous campaign and was his side’s overall fourth best-performing player, showing how much of a positive impact he had.

The 6 foot 1 titan also made 119 saves from 167 shots on target against, giving him a save percentage of 72.5% which was higher than any of the three goalkeepers who were involved in the action in the Midlands.

Finally, Di Gregorio has an extremely strong range of passing having completed 259 of 259 short passes, giving him a 100% success rate, and 539 of 553 medium passes, which equals 97.5%, via FBRef.

He’s an incredibly well-rounded player and one who would slot perfectly into the Reds team ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, especially if Cooper wants to bring the ball out from the back more.

Burnley have been given some good news in their pursuit of Jack Clarke, with reliable journalist Alan Nixon reporting that only the Clarets are bidding for the player despite interest from elsewhere.

The winger finally managed to get regular first-team football after his move to Sunderland, and played in nearly every single Championship game over the course of last season.

Having struggled to start games with Leeds and then had to make do with loan spells after being snatched up by Tottenham, his permanent switch to the Stadium of Light has led to a lot more minutes. That, in turn, has led to an increased output. Playing 45 times for them in the second tier – the first time he has ever managed more than 25 games in a season – he bagged nine goals and a further eleven assists.

It meant that Clarke led the entire league for assists and he also ranked eighth for his goal contribution tally – and when you consider who else plays in that league and the fact it is his first real season in the first-team, it makes for impressive reading.

Those performances have now led to interest from elsewhere, with Burnley keen to take him into the Premier League with them ahead of the next campaign. Everton are amongst the other clubs that have also been linked with a deal for the player but it appears that the Clarets are firmly in pole position – and have a great chance to land the winger.

That's because according to a report from reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Burnley are the only team that are making actual bids to bring Clarke to Turf Moor.

No other interested side – such Crystal Palace, Brentford or the Toffees – have launched a concrete offer and that means Burnley are currently clear to bid as they please for him. They've already seen two bids rejected though – the latest being for £10m – and it appears as though the Black Cats won't budge until there is more on the table for the player.

The forward may only have really bagged regular first-team action for the first time in 2022/23, but he is already drawing high praise from those who have watched him. Football journalist and SAFC supporter Josh Bunting for example stated that Clarke was "excellent" for Sunderland this season because of his goals and consistency.

Burnley then would be a good next step for the player – but as yet, they are yet to convince the Black Cats to part ways with the youngster.

Manchester United have maintained an interest in Rabiot after failing in their pursuit one year ago, but the Tyneside club are headed towards a deal for the ace and will now look to ramp up the gas and bring him to St. James' Park.

The all-engulfing nature of his work as the nucleus would provide Rabiot with the perfect partner to exhibit the full scale of his skill set, with the industrious colossus having scored 11 times this term and ranking among the top 4% of midfielders across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for non-penalty goals, and the top 16% for progressive carries, clearances and aerials won per 90, as per FBref.

Praised as the "complete midfielder" himself by France manager Didier Deschamps, Rabiot is noted as a 'similar player' as per FBref, to Newcastle's box-crashing ace Joelinton, which further illustrates the suitability for Howe's system, and given the increase in competition next year, the Toon manager will want to make signings who can adapt to the system and maintain the cohesive equipoise.

Desmond could strike gold by appointing the Norwegian tactician as the 54-year-old could be an excellent coach for the club and a better one than Potter would have been.

The Bodo/Glimt tinkerer has enjoyed a terrific spell in his home country and has a proven track record of leading a team to glory domestically, whilst also showing signs of being able to produce results in Europe.

Knutsen has won two titles in the last three seasons in the top-tier of Norwegian football and his team are currently ten points clear at the top of the table with ten wins out of 11 games in 2023, which means that he is on course for a third title in four years if his side can maintain that form.

He also led his men to the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League and won seven out of 11 matches in the competition in the 2021/22 campaign.

Potter, on the other hand, has never won a title outside of the third division of Swedish football and has only finished higher than fifth once in any division since 2013. This means that he would have arrived at Celtic with no experience of winning titles at the top level, something that is surely a requirement for a team who have just won the treble.

The 48-year-old did win five of his seven Champions League matches in charge of Chelsea but has only managed 21 games in European competitions, in comparison to Knutsen's 37.

Taking all of this into consideration, the Bodo/Glimt boss could be an excellent and better alternative to Potter as the attack-minded manager, who plays a 4-3-3 system, boasts a proven track record of winning titles and dominating a league, which is what Celtic will be hoping to carry on doing after back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles under Postecoglou.

Chelsea picked up the ex-Benfica ace for good reason, with the midfielder forming a deadly partnership in Portugal with former teammate Florentino Luiz, lauded as the Eagles’ “anchor”.

Not only that, the former Toulouse talent ranks ninth for tackles and tenth for progressive passes, passes into the final third and shots on target in the entire Bundesliga this season, which is a testament to his strong box-to-box abilities allowing him to be a huge presence in both attacking play and defensive transition.

These comparable traits will be of huge interest to the Liverpool hierarchy after interest in the Seagulls midfielder, as the potential to bring in a young midfielder who possesses a very similar profile without the need to spend heavily will certainly capture the attention of the well-renowned tight-spending club owners this summer.

With that being said, it would be a no-brainer to snap up the services of Kone if Liverpool remain keen to bring in a player who can offer the qualities needed to improve ball retention and the performances in midfield next season.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae this summer – and the South Korean could replace £60m flop Marc Cucurella at Stamford Bridge.

Would Kim Min-Jae be a good signing for Chelsea?

According to 90min, Napoli could be forced to sell the powerful centre-back this summer, with Chelsea among those interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all also thought to be in the running, while Chelsea are said to have sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old play this month – and could bring him to Stamford Bridge for as little as €45m (£39m) due to a release clause in his contract, which is only eligible in the first two weeks of the upcoming transfer window.

Since joining from Fenerbahce last summer, the six foot three defender has gone on to make 34 appearances in Serie A for Luciano Spalletti's side, contributing two goals and two assists with a superb 7.10 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also dubbed him as an "iron barrel" and described him as one of the best in the world, so he could certainly be a quality addition to Chelsea's squad this summer if he can live up to that praise.

Could Kim Min-Jae replace Cucurella at Chelsea?

One concern for Todd Boehly is the number of defensive options already at Stamford Bridge but if he were able to complete a deal for the former Beijing Guoan star, perhaps it could see Cucurella moved on.

The Spanish defender joined from Brighton last summer but has endured a difficult first season in west London, with WhoScored ranking him as the 15th-best performer in Chelsea's squad.

Often utilised as a left-sided centre-back, Cucurella hasn't looked comfortable at all in recent months and his lack of defensive awareness was cruelly exposed in the Champions League defeat against Real Madrid.

Given the competition for places at Chelsea and Boehly's demands for a better 2023/24 season, the 24-year-old is surely a prime candidate to be moved on this summer, especially if it can fund a move for Kim.

The South Korean has averaged far more interceptions, clearances and blocks per game than Cucurella so far this term, so would be a far more natural centre-back for Mauricio Pochettino to have at Stamford Bridge, making him a fine target Boehly should definitely try to sign.
