West Ham fans flock to Dawson claim

According to a report by club insiders Claret & Hugh, via West Ham Central, defender Craig Dawson will sign for West Ham United once he makes just two more appearances for the club – a fee which will apparently total £2.2 million.

Manager David Moyes also confirmed in a press conference that Dawson is ‘very close’ to becoming a permanent player as the club near his obligation to buy clause over the amount of matches featured (football.london).

Now, Claret & Hugh claim that the exact number of appearances needed is two – with the transfer fee paid to parent club Watford amounting to around £2.2m when the clause is triggered.

Flocking to this claim, plenty of Hammers were in full reaction as one supporter called it the ‘best news I have heard all day’.

Given the unexpected impact Dawson has made at the London Stadium, keeping the likes of Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop out the team at points this season, it’s hardly surprising some supporters are excited.

Celtic: Brown on the way out if Rangnick arrives?

It’s not often we’ve had a chance to say it over the last decade, but this has been a poor season for Celtic.

So regularly the dominant force in Scottish football they’re receiving a very high dosage of their own medicine in 2020/21.

They are significantly off the pace in the SPFL and all hopes of winning a record tenth successive crown have fallen away.

Neil Lennon is miraculously still in the job. Supporters have voiced their concerns in aggressive fashion outside Parkhead but the club’s hierarchy – Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell – are sticking by him.

The ramifications of which could last longer than just this season too. With a potential 12-man exodus on the cards in the summer, the future isn’t looking too pretty for the Bhoys.

So, who could the man be to revive their fortunes? A certain Ralf Rangnick could do the trick. After turning down the chance to manage Chelsea, Hoops fans have been lusting after his signature. Though, according to commentator Derek Rae, the German would have to be enthused by the project in Glasgow to join.

What sort of ideologies would he bring with him? Well, he was described as the “architect” for the successful club that RB Leipzig have become. Rangnick is the pioneer of the modern-day press and he also utilises a very specific transfer strategy.

In Germany, he devised a plan where the club would exclusively sign players under the age of 23. Rangnick appointed a sporting director in Markus Krosche, someone who opened up on the method last year. He told BBC Sport: “We are looking for young, talented and hungry players. We are not willing to pay an enormous amount of money for so-called football stars, we want to find and develop the stars of tomorrow.”

Celtic have, of course, done that already with players like Odsonne Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer but it’s hard to suggest they come close to the likes of Timo Werner – one of Krosche and Rangnick’s discoveries in Germany.

This bodes well for the younger individuals at Celtic, but one player it doesn’t bode well for is Scott Brown. The 35-year-old’s contract expires this summer and with Rangnick favouring an approach towards the players of tomorrow, Brown doesn’t stand a chance of staking a claim at Parkhead.

The midfielder may have scored in the win over Kilmarnock but he has largely had a poor season, looking off the pace and out of position on a regular basis. The Hoops stalwart has been a key part of Celtic’s success in the last ten years but it’s safe to say his days are becoming increasingly numbered under Lennon.

Under Rangnick, they would surely be done and dusted. Like Frank Lampard – another of Celtic’s potential managerial targets – he prefers to work with young players.

Brown should be running for the hills.

AND in other news, 1 goal since November: Lennon should start Celtic exodus by axing “non-existent” 25y/o…

West Ham fans flock to Lingard claim

According to club insiders Claret & Hugh, via West Ham News, it would be a ‘huge surprise’ if January loan signing Jesse Lingard did not sign permanently in the summer – prompting many Irons to flock to this potentially promising claim.

Lingard has been a revelation since putting pen to paper on a loan deal with West Ham United in January, scoring three goals in four Premier League starts already (WhoScored) – including a winner against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, C&H have dropped a promising claim on Lingard’s situation – going on to state it would be a ‘huge surprise’ if he didn’t sign permanently at the end of his loan spell.

Flocking to this statement on social media, some West Ham fans displayed excitement at the prospect of keeping Lingard indefinitely – with one Hammer even describing it as the ‘best thing’ he’s seen all day.

Meanwhile, other Irons had a variation of verdicts – find all of their best comments down below.

Liverpool can sign their next Harvey Elliott in Kaide Gordon

Liverpool are reportedly one of the Premier League sides who are interested in signing Derby County 16-year-old this month.

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, both Liverpool and Manchester United are ‘circling’ the youngster, with the piece suggesting that he is one of the best young footballers to keep an eye on for 2021.

The teenager recently made his first-team debut with the Rams under player-manager Wayne Rooney and is described as a quick and skilful forward.

Liverpool’s next Harvey Elliott?

Liverpool have shown that they can have great success in bringing in young talent in recent years, with Harvey Elliott perhaps the prime example.

The winger was signed as a 16-year-old in the summer of 2019 and has already made nine appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team during his two years with the club.

Earlier this season, he joined Blackburn Rovers on loan and he has performed incredibly well in his time with Tony Mowbray’s side, having contributed four goals and six assists in 18 Championship appearances for the Ewood Park outfit, so clearly seems destined for a big future with the Reds.

Similarly to Elliott, Gordon is already making an impression in the Championship and was handed his first senior appearance as a late substitute in the Rams’ win against Birmingham City recently.

Following the game, Rooney was full of praise for the youngster, saying:

“I brought Kaide up with the first team initially to train with us for a week to see how he reacted to it, and he was one of the best trainers. I kept him with us and he has been training at the same level, if not better, as the others.”

Although Liverpool fans might not be the biggest fan of Rooney’s, there’s no doubting the success he had in England during his playing career and if he has put his faith in Gordon at just 16, then he must certainly be talented.

Therefore, the Reds must act on their reported interest in the Derby County ace and ensure that they are the ones to sign him ahead of Manchester United.

And, in other news, Forget Trent: “World-class” LFC star who made just 11 passes really let Klopp down vs Southampton…

Leeds must regret not signing Nicolas Gonzalez

As is always the case once a transfer window ends, there will be players who slip through the net that end up proving you wrong. And in Leeds United’s case, that man could well be Nicolas Gonzalez.

Reports over the course of the summer suggested that Marcelo Bielsa’s side were very much interested in bringing the Argentina international to Elland Road from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, but a deal failed to materialise.

Since then, he has been in outstanding form for the German side, showcasing just why Leeds were interested in luring him to the Premier League in the first place, and why they must surely regret missing out on his signature.

In just 10 games in the German top-flight this campaign, he’s scored five times and provided a further two assists, and was in particularly excellent form against Augsburg on Sunday afternoon.

He scored one from the spot, and also set up Gonzalo Castro’s goal as Stuttgart ran out emphatic 4-1 winners. But it was his overall game that was really outstanding, providing two key passes, sending in two crosses, and winning four duels too – as per Sofascore, he finished with the highest match rating of any player on the pitch with an 8.2.

Stuttgart’s head coach, Pellegrino Matarazzo, said of him: “He’s got a lot of qualities, but what I like best about him is that he’s a winner. He wants to win at all costs. He always gives 100 percent, and gets stuck in. He’s very important for us.”

That mentality would have fit in well at Elland Road, where Bielsa has got his players running through brick walls week-in and week-out for him, covering lung-busting amounts of distances in games and getting involved in the physical challenges.

And when you compare Gonzalez to Patrick Bamford’s performances this season, then it really sways towards the former. The Argentine has a far better minutes per goal ratio, has missed far less big chances, and provided double the amount of key passes and successful dribbles per game too.

If there’s one signing Leeds may look back with a sense of ‘what if’, then Gonzalez might be that man.

Sunderland’s Luke O’Nien stole the show on Tuesday evening

Sunderland are stuck in a horrible rot at the moment, one that seemingly has no end.

Despite news that Stewart Donald is set to finally relinquish his control of the Black Cats, there has been no rejuvenation or upturn in positivity.

In fact, there has been quite the opposite. The Mackems have sacked Phil Parkinson and now without a win in four League One outings, are searching for new owners, a new manager and a director of football.

If anything summed up Sunderland in the last four or five years it would be this. Yet again, there is a lack of clarity at the Stadium of Light and it must be impossible for the players to focus on their jobs.

However, one player who was able to focus on what mattered against Burton was Max Power. The midfielder popped up with a vital late goal in their 1-1 draw which somewhat saved Andrew Taylor’s blushes.

Despite his strike, there was someone who stood out further – Luke O’Nien.

The right-wing back has been impressive this term and is showing great commitment to the club with his performances. On Tuesday, he was brilliant again, providing a lesson to the rest of the team.

He didn’t score or assist a goal but he was dedicated and robust, winning 90% of his duels against the Brewers. Whether it was on the ground where he won four duels or in the air where he won five, O’Nien was imperious and deserves the plaudits from what was otherwise a damp occasion.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old was fouled on four occasions, using his body to good effect to win dead-ball situations for his team.

It was disappointing, therefore, to see him go off with an arm injury, something that is suspected to be a dislocated shoulder.

If that is the case, then it could be a few weeks before we see O’Nien in action for the Black Cats again. After this performance, that would be desperately cruel on the club.

Meanwhile, Sunderland MUST hand more minutes to one young striker…

Sunderland must swoop for Manchester City starlet James McAtee

Kristjaan Speakman could be the man who holds the keys to Sunderland’s promotion.

If he and Lee Johnson are able to spend sensibly in January then it could well engineer a successful run to the Championship.

That, however, will be easier said than done.

What’s the word?

Prospective buyer William Storey revealed last weekend that if he manages to secure a takeover and buy the club from Stewart Donald he will target a very specific area in terms of new recruits.

That happens to be the Premier League. Of course, Sunderland can’t exactly go out and spend money on Premier League talent but what they can do is look at the academy sides where a whole host of talent is currently occupied.

As a result of Storey’s claim, The Sunderland Echo put together a piece looking at the viable options for Johnson and Speakman in January.

One player who could be on their radar is Manchester City midfielder James McAtee. According to the Echo, there will be no shortage of suitors for the 18-year-old if a temporary move is sanctioned next month.

Move over Embleton

If McAtee does indeed join in January it could be disastrous for Elliot Embleton.

The midfielder spent the vast majority of last season out injured with a serious hamstring injury and as a result, his development has been pushed back considerably.

Embleton has now managed to break into the senior team at the Stadium of Light for the first time but if the Black Cats look to sign a creative player in January that could put his progression on the backburner once again.

This wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for the Mackems, though. That’s because McAtee is a bright young player with plenty of attacking qualities. Capable of playing as a centre-forward, out wide, as a number 10 or further back, he is as versatile as Embleton.

However, his numbers are significantly more eye-catching. Compared to fellow Man City midfielder Phil Foden, the teenager has scored six goals and assisted a further seven for the Citizens’ U23 side this season.

Embleton, on the other hand, only ever netted six times for Sunderland at the same level.

It’s clear that McAtee has plenty of potential and signing him on loan in January could add plenty to Johnson’s ranks.

AND in other news, Sunderland can fix Johnson’s big issue with swoop for “really lively” beast compared to Andy Cole…

Everton’s Jordan Pickford showcases the love/hate response he deserves

Everton maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-2 draw at home to Stanley Park neighbours Liverpool on Saturday, but perhaps most impressive of all is that Carlo Ancelotti’s side were able to claim a point despite Jordan Pickford.

Yet at the same time, Pickford can also be heralded for Ancelotti’s side having claimed a point at home to a side the Toffees remain winless against in a decade, after producing a performance typical of who the 26-year-old has come to be over the past 18-months.

One second Pickford is brilliant and pulling out world-class saves, but the next he’s making a horrific blunder that makes you question why manager’s continually favour the former Sunderland man who has now started each of Everton’s last 119 Premier League fixtures.

The Toffees also continue to sit at the top of the table knowing they cannot be met for at least another week, and yet, for the wrecking ball between the sticks in Pickford, they came ever so close to seeing an early red card derail Ancelotti’s work over the opening weeks.

It has almost become what you now expect of Pickford, a panicky shot-stopper determined to get to the ball and make an impact on proceedings but without the thought of mind to realise when some scenarios are best left for other players to resolve.

No better example of this came when Pickford opted to dart from his line in the hope of blocking Virgil van Dijk from shooting at goal on Saturday, only to clatter into the Netherlands defender and raise fears over a serious knee injury that could have dire consequences on the Reds’ title hopes.

The incident could easily have led to referee Michael Oliver pointing to the spot or reaching to his back pocket for the red card, as well, but Pickford’s blushes were saved when Van Dijk was ruled to have been offside when the ball was initially played to him.

Pickford was able to put the clattering incident behind him and turn a corner with his performance to deny Trent Alexander-Arnold in sublime fashion, when the defender’s free-kick seemed destined for the top corner. His fast reflexes later denied Joel Matip, too, as the £23.4m-rated man was able to claw the Cameroon international’s header away.

The errant side of Pickford’s game is a brush continually now used to tarnish his reputation and raise questions over his continued place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. Yet Three Lions icon Peter Shilton finds it mystifying that questions are even raised given the shot-stoppers efforts on the international stage.

“I’m a bit mystified, because I think he’s done well for England,” Shilton told talkSPORT earlier this month.

“Every game I’ve seen him play, he’s made vital saves. In the last game, he only had one save to make but it was at the right time and it was a terrific save.”

But Pickford’s place in Southgate’s squad became a topic of debate earlier this month after an error-strewn disaster against Brighton & Hove Albion, having gifted Neal Maupay possession yards from the goal line to equalise.

The 26-year-old regained his composure to help England beat the world’s top-ranked side Belgium, yet Pickford was far from perfect in a mostly quiet affair between the sticks by flapping at the occasional cross and was at it again against Denmark.

Rather than leaving Kyle Walker to contain Thomas Delaney, Pickford was panicky, rushing off his line and playing a key role in the incident which saw the Three Lions concede a penalty. And with goalkeepers, one crucial error can cost a side more heavily than others.

Luckily for Everton, that turned out not to be the case this Saturday against Liverpool, but Ancelotti’s side came ever so close to paying the price for Pickford’s panicky nature when the 26-year-old crunched into Van Dijk.

Ancelotti would have hoped not to see Pickford cause a controversial incident, though, and putting himself in those positions raises doubt over whether or not the ‘keeper is truly learning from his errors.

Pickford spoke publicly in December 2019 on how he needed to block out Newcastle United supporters whenever he faces the Toon for his Sunderland past, having bitten the bait earlier that year when his panicky nature took hold.

The jibes from supporters made Pickford feel a need to make an impact, but the impact he created should have resulted in a red card when he clattered into Salomon Rondon and conceded a penalty, which he would save before conceding three second-half goals.

“I was in my own world out there, I knew that last time I was here I let it all affect me,” Pickford said, via quotes by the Chronicle. “That was a big learning curve for me and it’s always been a tough place to play, especially for someone with my background.”

It appeared like Pickford was back in his own world this weekend when he clattered into Van Dijk in front of an empty Goodison Park, raising greater worry that he is not taking on board the ‘learning curve’ needed to see fans love him more than they will hate.

AND in other news, Carlo Ancelotti must regret starting a £21.6m-rated man vs Liverpool after his challenging performance.

Rangers: Ryan Kent changes his agent

Glasgow Rangers winger Ryan Kent has changed his agent, Football Insider has revealed.

Kent makes big change

The former Liverpool star was previously represented by the Crown Football agency, but it has now been revealed that his family, including his brother Casper Kent, will act as his agents from now on.

This comes after it was recently revealed the Gers were looking to extend the contract of the £3.15m-valued 24-year-old (Transfermarkt), with him potentially set to move into the top pay bracket of over £28,000 a week.

Could affect new deal

Changing agents is not uncommon in football, but the timing of this switch is interesting. These contract rumours have just emerged, a few months after the Oldham native was linked with a move to Leeds United in the Premier League.

The Gers will have to hope that Kent does not decide to change his demands as a result of this switch. Given that his family are now taking over, it would suggest that they are only asking for the best deal for Kent himself rather than worrying about huge commission for an agent or a representative. Called “wonderful” by Jurgen Klopp during his time at Liverpool, it would be a huge blow if Kent were to leave Ibrox any time soon.

In other news, this Rangers summer target impressed whilst on international duty.

Coventry City: Mark Robins makes transfer admission as player exits look likely

Coventry City boss Mark Robins has said that he needs to sell a number of players before the transfer window comes to a close.

After gaining promotion from League One to the Championship last season, winning the league title in the process, Robins has been working hard this summer to bring in some new faces.

No less than eight players have come in to join the Sky Blues with the likes of Gustavo Hamer and Ben Sheaf arriving to bolster different areas of Robins squad.

Whilst a whole host of players also departed at the end of last season, Robins has now said that others could follow the likes of Junior Brown and Zain Westbrooke out of the Midlands club.

Robins, who was speaking after his side’s defeat against Bristol City and ahead of the upcoming EFL Cup fixture against Gillingham, said: “We need to move some players out and the natural thing is to look at the younger players and think right, what’s the likelihood of them starting games with us and developing with us.”

Asked about the prospect of any new arrivals, the City boss further added: “I have to wait and see.

“With the window running until October 5 we have a little bit of time to assess things this month to see where we’re at.

“It totally depends on this month and whether the club need me to do some more work in terms of moving people out, and what that means.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean people out to bring people in, it means people out to try to bring the cost base down and function like that as well as we possibly can do. Everyone knows we have to make sense of the finances as well as the players and the team, and I think we have done pretty well so far.”

In total, Robins has spent £1.35m on new players with the biggest transfer fee paid going on Gustavo Hamer from Dutch side PEC Zwolle.

Robins has been superb in the summer transfer window and his side were extremely unlucky not to get an opening day result against Bristol City at the weekend.

Moving forward, the team will be expected to gel even more and results will hopefully follow.

A number of exits are expected, one for the player to leave and get first team football and two, for Robins to free up some funds.
