Colin de Grandhomme will play no part in the upcoming Test series at home against Pakistan as he isn’t yet back to running, and recovers from a foot injury, while the wait for Kane Williamson to return to the set-up continues. New Zealand coach Gary Stead said that the all-format captain, who took leave to be with his partner Sarah Raheem for the birth of their first child, is expected to join the team before the second T20I against Pakistan, but that it’s still a waiting game at this stage.”There’s no update on baby news at this stage, so we’re just going to let them carry on as is,” Stead said of Williamson, three days out from the first T20I against Pakistan in Auckland, at a press interaction. “The plan at this stage still is that he will join the team for T20s two and three.”Related

Taylor dropped for Pakistan T20Is; Ferguson out with injury

The first Test starts on Boxing Day after the last T20I on December 22, and Stead said de Grandhomme is expected to return to domestic cricket around mid-January. “Colin’s unfortunately going to be ruled out of the two Tests against Pakistan,” Stead said. “He’s got a stress reaction in his right foot; we haven’t at this stage been able to get him up to running stage and then ultimately bowling as well, so unfortunately for Colin, he’s out. Looking like, hopefully, a mid-January return to play in the Super Smash for him.”There was no major update on Lockie Ferguson’s injured back either, with the team management waiting for reports of the scans, but the latest on left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel was encouraging. “Ajaz Patel will travel up with the ‘A’ squad this week [to play Pakistan A in Whangarei]. He is going to be part of their preparations,” Stead said. “We are hoping that he’s going to be in contention for the Test match; in terms of the selection side of things it’s still a bit wait and see to see where he’s at with that.”De Grandhomme and Patel had also missed the two-Test series against West Indies, which New Zealand swept 2-0 with innings wins in both games. Williamson was the Player of the Match in the first Test for a career-best 251, and though he missed the second game as he had gone on paternity leave by then, Will Young, who had debuted in the first Test, slotted in at No. 3 and scored 43.Kyle Jamieson, meanwhile, was the main allrounder for New Zealand in the two Tests, and emerged with the Player-of-the-Series award after picking up 11 wickets – with a best of 5 for 34 in the first innings of the second Test – and scoring 71 runs in two innings, including an unbeaten 51 in the first Test.

Bangladesh confirm DRS availability despite technician difficulties

Henry Ellison is currently in quarantine, but it is understood that he can work the system remotely if needed

Mohammad Isam18-Jan-2021The first ODI between Bangladesh and West Indies will go ahead with DRS in place, despite its technician, Henry Ellison, currently being currently in quarantine in Dhaka. The BCB has been busy trying to reduce his isolation time by writing to the government, but ESPNcricinfo has learnt that since the necessary DRS equipment has already arrived in the capital, he could even operate them from a remote location, ensuring the availability of the DRS in all three ODIs.According to a circular from the country’s civil aviation authority, all passengers arriving from the United Kingdom from January 16, in addition to a negative Covid-19 test certificate, must be placed in mandatory institutional quarantine for four days, and after testing negative again, go through another ten days of home quarantine. On Monday evening, it appeared that progress had been made with the BCB announcing a list of match officials who will be working on the three-match ODI series, with Ellison’s name listed as “DRS tech”.The civil aviation authority’s ruling has also delayed the announcement of a neutral umpire for the two Test matches that begins on February 3. Bangladesh does not have an umpire in the Elite panel, so the ICC has to send one from another country.Jalal Yunus, the BCB’s media committee chairman, said that they are in discussion with government officials to consider the situation, with the oncoming umpire likely to be from the UK as well.”There will definitely be DRS (in the first ODI) but the issue is with the DRS engineer coming from London,” Yunus said. “You are aware of the Covid protocol for passengers coming from the UK. They have to stay in institutional isolation for the first four days and then the next ten days at their own accommodation.”We have written to the health ministry about this and also spoken to the Covid authority who looks after this. We have to wait and see what happens. We have written to the government to give us a bit of leeway, but within the rules. For the neutral umpire we have a bit of time in hand as they are only coming for the Test matches.”The BCB were successful in reducing the 14-day mandatory quarantine for new batting coach Jon Lewis and bowling coach Ottis Gibson, both of whom arrived from the UK on January 8. The coaches were under BCB’s supervision for the quarantined period, but got out early to begin training of the Bangladesh team in BKSP.

The Portuguese coach is set to formally take charge of United on November 11. Last week, the club announced him as their next head coach following Erik ten Hag's departure from Old Trafford. In the meantime, Ten Hag's assistant, Van Nistelrooy, is managing the team as their interim coach.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Van Nistelrooy's tutelage, the Red Devils won their Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City 5-2 but were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday at home. After the clash with the Blues, the Dutchman expressed his desire to stay back and work under Amorim, however, former England and United forward Sheringham believes that it is unlikely that the 39-year-old will keep him on.

  • WHAT TEDDY SHERINGHAM SAID

Speaking to Flashscore, Sheringham said: "It wouldn’t be a mistake for Ruben Amorim to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy. Most managers come in with their staff behind them and with his stock so high he will be able to make his own demands. If he doesn't know Ruud and doesn't know his personality then he won’t have his back. I think when new managers come in it’s time for a fresh start and you don’t want any confusion as to what was at the club before."

Adam Milne takes it one step at a time but dreams of New Zealand comeback

Adam Milne is just happy to put one foot in front of the other at the moment. He still holds hopes for a return to international cricket with New Zealand, and even dreams of a coveted Test cap, but after 16 months without playing any top-level cricket due to a serious stress fracture in his left ankle, and two subsequent surgeries, playing seven games out of eight in the BBL for Sydney Thunder has been a satisfying achievement in itself as he starts the long climb back towards representing New Zealand again, something he hasn’t done since November 2018.”First things first, is to keep playing over here and stay fit and healthy and get more games and overs into my body,” Milne told ESPNcricinfo. “I think everyone would love to play Test match cricket. New Zealand has got an amazing battery of fast bowlers at the moment. I think at the moment I’m just keeping pretty level-headed, trying to just stay healthy and play some games.”I’d love to get back and play for New Zealand in T20 and one-day cricket, and if the chance arose and I was healthy and playing, then Test cricket would be amazing as well. I’ll just take each game as it comes. But playing for New Zealand is still the dream.”Related

Milne’s return to top-level cricket in the BBL with Sydney Thunder was somewhat of a coup. Having not played since injuring his ankle playing for Kent in the 2019 T20 Blast, Milne was set for a domestic return this summer with Central Districts in New Zealand where he was under contract. His long-time mentor and Thunder coach Shane Bond called him in October with a proposition to come to Australia and play as the Thunder’s third overseas signing alongside Alex Hales and Sam Billings. It was an offer too good to refuse.”The Big Bash is seen as one of those tournaments everyone would love to play in,” Milne said. “I sort of just went through the process with Central Districts, saying look I’ve had this offer from Bondy and I’m pretty keen to go but I sort of want to make sure I do the right thing by everyone here. I didn’t want to feel like I was turning my back on New Zealand Cricket and domestic cricket in New Zealand.”I still have aspirations to play for New Zealand and I still want to play domestic cricket back home but I just felt like the opportunity, having had the last couple of years like I’ve had with injury, was too good to turn down. They understood that and gave me their blessing to go over and talk to the guys at New Zealand Cricket and they were fine with me going over as well. We had to smooth out a few things contractually which they were amazing with and I can’t fault the way they went about it.”Milne personally spoke with New Zealand coach Gary Stead about the opportunity. Bond’s standing within New Zealand cricket, and Milne’s relationship with him, no doubt helped fill the hierarchy with confidence.”Working with Bondy has been great,” Milne said. “I worked with him when I was 17 when I first started playing domestic cricket. He was there and helped me through that and then onto the Blackcaps where he became the bowling coach as well.”He’s made a huge mark on my career and he’s someone that I feel very comfortable bouncing ideas off, just talking to him, little bits about bowling and different ideas and different things about my action. To be able to work with him and learn from him and his experience has been second to none.”Milne has played seven of eight games for the Thunder, including the last five in a row on a number of different surfaces. His pace has been at trademark levels and his ankle has held up.”The body is feeling good,” Milne said. “As always with fast bowling, there’s always little bits and pieces and I know my ankle is never going to be like it was when I was 17, but at the moment it’s sort of holding up.”There’s some different ways of taping it just to try and offload the crunch that I get in the corner of my ankle, just based on the way I land.Adam Milne slips in his delivery stride during his comeback game•Getty Images

“And then just other little bits of treatment. Making sure I’m icing after I’m bowling and trying to keep my ankle mobility. There are little things you can try and do to offload it. At the end of the day, you’re still pounding down at the crease at eight to 10 times your body weight so it’s never ideal. I just try and offload as much as I can.”Milne has bowled well without much luck. He’s taken just four wickets from 29 overs in the tournament but has been reasonably economical, conceding 7.65 an over as Thunder captain Callum Ferguson has entrusted him with the Powerplays and the Power Surge, as well as the death overs.”I feel like I haven’t bowled too badly,” Milne said. “I probably haven’t taken the wickets that I would love to have taken, but sometimes that’s just the way T20 can go. You can bowl some good overs and not take wickets but help the other bowlers around you. I feel like I’ve bowled well in parts.”I’m still forever working on trying to complete my bowling sets and trying to do that and help the team. I feel like I’m heading in the right direction.”Milne is keen to return to Central Districts next month, after a mandatory 14-day quarantine, and potentially play some first-class cricket again. He will also nominate for the IPL auction having previously spent three seasons at Royal Challengers Bangalore and one with Mumbai Indians. But his immediate priority is to repay the Thunder’s faith and get them to a second title.”We’re still really confident in the team we’ve got and the squad we’ve got,” Milne said. “We feel like we probably haven’t played to our ability in the last few games but we showed at the front end of the tournament when we’re all firing, scoring 200 plus, and then being able to bowl teams out.”We’ve got a lot of different styles of cricketer amongst our team and I think we can play well on most surfaces. It’s about just playing freely.”

Fulham ready to launch bid for gem amid links to £25m-rated teammate

Fulham look set to build upon last season's 13th-place finish in the Premier League by bringing new attacking talent to Craven Cottage this summer.

Fulham launch bids for forward players

The big news concerning Fulham's transfer activity has been their pursuit of Arsenal winger Emile Smith Rowe. A recent report from BBC Sport suggested that the Gunners had rejected an initial offer for the player, with the Cottagers now weighing up whether to renew their efforts and put in an improved bid for the 23-year-old.

The Cottagers just lost their star man to Bayern Munich…

ByTom Cunningham Jul 18, 2024

Fulham have also held a long-standing interest in Besiktas talent Semih Kilicsoy. It was reported at the start of July that the west London outfit had opened talks with Besiktas over a potential transfer after scouting the 18-year-old for many months. It was suggested that Marco Silva's side had submitted an opening bid in the region of €20million (£16.8million) for the player.

The Cottagers have not been alone in their interest in the Turkey star, with Aston Villa also making an approach for Kilicsoy. The most recent development out of Turkey has seen the Villans table a fresh €30milllion (£25million) offer to sign the striker.

With the promise of European football potentially proving too enticing for Kilicsoy to turn down, Fulham may have to look towards other targets. With the Cottagers already in communication with Besiktas, it appears that the club could be making a move for another of the Süper Lig outfit's stars.

Fulham return for another Besiktas star

As relayed by Sport Witness, the Turkish press are now claiming that Fulham are showing an interest in Besiktas youngster Mustafa Hekimoglu. The outlet states that the Cottagers have been following the attacker for a considerable time and they are now preparing an official offer.

With the west London club having already made contact for Kilicsoy it is reported that they will use these existing links to step up their pursuit of Hekimoglu. Whilst many of the Craven Cottage faithful will be disappointed to see their club miss out on Kilicsoy, his teammate could end up being an even bigger talent.

Despite having just 6 Süper Lig appearances to his name, the 17-year-old has impressed at youth level scoring 5 goals in 12 games for Besiktas Under-19s last season. Hekimoglu also got his first taste of European football last season when he came off the bench in Besiktas' Conference League victory over FC Lugano back in December.

Hekimoglu has also enjoyed a successful career on the international stage, making a number of appearances for Turkey's youth sides. The forward most recently represented his country at under-18 level, where he scored in a 10-1 demolition of Jamaica.

The teenager has spent the majority of his career playing as a central striker, but has been deployed as both a left and right-winger when needed.

Whilst it is highly unlikely that Hekimoglu will step straight into the first team at Craven Cottage, there is every chance that he can continue his upward trajectory and become a regular fixture at Fulham in the not-too-distant future.

Man Utd weigh up move for £50m+ ace who Ashley Cole thinks has "got it all"

After missing out on the top four of the Premier League last season, Manchester United will now be eager to improve Erik ten Hag's squad in order to aid their quest for Champions League football next year.

Ratcliffe ready to bolster United's backline

The inquest into the Red Devils' struggles last season will likely point towards their failure to establish a reliable back four as the reason for their lack of success in the league.

£120,000-per-week player set to leave Tottenham as Man United chase him

Erik ten Hag is among his summer suitors.

ByEmilio Galantini Jul 4, 2024

Asides from Diogo Dalot's 35 starts last term, no United defender managed more than 20 league starts over the course of the season. Most worrying will be the significant minutes given to fringe players such as Jonny Evans, who laced up on 23 occasions in the Premier League last year.

In order to address this issue Sir Jim Ratcliffe has taken no time opening his chequebook and dipping into the transfer market. Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite has been the Red Devils' top target during the opening passages of the window with the most recent development seeing the club go directly to the player to agree terms on a £160,000-a-week contract. That said, both of their first two bids have been rejected by the Toffees.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite

Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt is also being looked at by United with the club seemingly now getting the green light to sign the Dutch international. Whilst the centre of defence remains a problem area for United, the board are also now looking at a player who can sure up the left side of their backline.

Red Devils could make move for Chelsea ace

As first reported by Team Talk, Man United are considering a move for Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell. This development follows news from Fabrizio Romano back in March that the club would sign a new left back this summer.

It has previously been claimed that Chelsea would be willing to let Chilwell leave Stamford Bridge this summer after the 27-year-old has struggled to establish himself in West London. Despite this, the Blues would only be willing to part ways with the defender if an offer north of £50 million is submitted.

Whilst much of the Old Trafford faithful will welcome the arrival of a new left back, there will rightfully be concerns over the signing of Chilwell. With current first choice in this position Luke Shaw struggling with a number of injuries in recent years, signing another injury-prone player in Chilwell does not appear a wise move on paper.

Despite this, Chilwell is a player with obvious quality, with Chelsea legend Ashley Cole waxing lyrical about the defender after his debut for the club back in 2021: "He can handle the ball in every area – defensively, in the middle third, he can deal with it. And, of course, attacking-wise, he can cross, he can shoot, he can combine. He’s got it all."

As no talks have currently taken place between the clubs over a deal for Chilwell, the deal is very much still in its infancy. Despite this, the United faithful should relish the fact that the club are actively looking for new players to fix a problem area of the pitch.

He has mastered the art of securing more air time, telling of how the show works: “I had to develop the character of Isaac while shooting. That’s the kind of thing that Jason Sudeikis brings, that thinking on your feet improvisation side to it, where you know he wants you to add to what’s there. And if it’s good, it’s gonna be in there.
